Baggy denim, it's a contentious issue and I for one am fully embracing it. Whether it's here to stay or only for a fashion moment, I am going in....
Why Baggy Jeans Are A Must-Have Right Now
To me, they just feel so fresh right now and I am here for them.
It's ALL about getting the proportions right though. Get it wrong and it can look like you are wearing wayyyyy too much fabric and you lose any definition. Get it right and your legs will look dramatically longer and you will win all the style stakes.
Styling Low-Slung Baggy Jeans
Let's start with a typical low slung baggy style and one of my personal favourites from sister label to Citizens of Humanity, Agolde.

When I wear these I feel like a million dollars. Here's how I style them:
1. Slim Fitting Tops:
I like to start with a slim fitting top that I can tuck in and wear either on its own or with an open shirt or jacket. It's important that if you choose to wear the overshirt, wear it open so that you can see your waist, even if it's just a flash - otherwise it will look like too much fabric.
2. Heels for Proportion:
I also like to wear heels with them as this gives the illusion of longer legs and really helps with balancing the proportions. They don't need to be towering heels, even a small heel will add height and also change the way you hold yourself.

3. Show Your Wrists:
Another trick when wearing a baggy jean is to try to show your wrists. I know this sounds bat *beep* crazy but trust me, it works. It's all part of the proportions game - Being able to see the wrists bounces the eye around the body and balances the fabric proportions.
The Barrel-Style Baggy Jeans
Next up let's consider a barrel style, the Miro by Citizens of Humanity is a really wearable style and less scary than the more exaggerated horseshoe shape you may have seen around. In my opinion, this is a great transition into a looser style and something I wear most days as they are a super easy (and comfortable) style.
Here’s how I style barrel-shaped jeans:
1. Show Your Ankles:
With this shape, you need to remember to show the ankle. Because of the gentle curve in the denim, seeing some skin at the ankle will again bounce the eye around the body and help with balancing the proportions.
2. Tuck The Top:
If I am wearing a baggier top with these jeans, I either tuck it all in and then 'pouf' it out or I just tuck the front in.
Whether you prefer a low-slung or barrel shape, the key to making baggy jeans work is all in the details - showing off your waist, wrists, and ankles, and using small styling tricks to balance proportions. Minor tweaks like these will literally transform an outfit, trust me.
